The Pittsburgh Pirates are not shy about getting aggressive with their assignments, especially the pitching prospects.
Anthony Solometo became one of the youngest players in Double-A last year after his promotion, and they’ve had several other arms pushed far ahead of what their age may indicate.
One prospect they aggressively pushed this year was Alessandro Ercolani, who began the year with High-A Greensboro and didn’t turn 20 until after the regular season started.
To make it to High-A as a teenager isn’t unheard of (Termarr Johnson), but you generally see it out of more well-known prospects.
It can be challenging for younger players to adjust to an advanced level, but Greensboro manager Blake Butler thought Ercolani handled the placement well.
