Charles McAdoo: Pull approach led to early results, is there more to game?
A 13th round pick in 2023, Charles McAdoo used a pull oriented approach to have early success in Bradenton.
You always want to hit on your early draft picks since they generally have the most money invested. Now and again, it’s the later-round picks' hitting that can come up huge for your team and a chance to flex the scouting department’s ability.
The MLB draft works a little differently than others; sometimes, the better players slip, but generally, when you get to the 13th round, you are talking about depth players.
That’s where the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Charles McAdoo, an infielder out of San Jose State.
After a sophomore season that saw him hit .345/.506/.629 with 12 home runs, 23 doubles, and 63 RBI, McAdoo was named a first-team preseason All-American by both Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, along with some familiar names as Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews.
He couldn’t quite repeat his numbers from the previous year: slashing .325/.409/.543 with 10 home runs, 19 doubles, and 47 RBI.
After being drafted by the Pirates, McAdoo signed and made his professional debut on August 1 against the Tampa Tarpons. He picked up hits in seven of his first eight games, including a 6-for-6 game where he homered twice on August 8 against Fort Myers.
