Overview
Jauregui was the first position player the Pirates have signed out of Cuba in over a decade. He has good speed and a plus arm, and could be a strong defender, more likely in a corner than in center. He’s a line-drive hitter at this point, but has some power potential. Originally a switch-hitter, Jauregui was better batting left-handed and so decided to stay that way.
2023-25
Jauregui’s debut in the DSL went reasonably well. He drew a lot of walks and also struck out a lot; the latter seems to be almost inevitable nowadays with very young players. He hit for only a little power, batting 242/419/326, and he stole 15 bases in 17 tries. Jauregui played center most of the time. He went back to the DSL in 2024 and hit the ball with a little more authority, batting 274/407/393. His plate discipline remained fairly good and he stole 17 bases in 23 tries. He mostly played center.
In 2025, Jauregui spent the season in the FCL. He continued to show good plate discipline, with 18 walks and 25 strikeouts. He didn’t hit the ball with a lot of authority, batting 214/364/296. He stole ten bases in 11 tries. The Pirates employed him strictly in the outfield corners.
