Domestic Reserve Limit descrease created some interesting scenarios
Organizations had 15 less players in system compared to 2023
We’ve seen some significant changes in the minor leagues over the last couple of years.
There has been a reduction in the number of affiliate teams, but also an increase in minimum pay and housing improvements, which is something that was long overdue.
Something else that kicked in during the 2024 season was that the Domestic Reserve Limit for each team decreased from 180 to 165, meaning teams had 15 fewer players in the organization compared to previous years.
With less players available, there was some concern about whether or not teams would have enough pitching to finish the season at all levels of the minors.
Greensboro Grasshoppers manager Blake Butler recognized the difficulty that came with things getting tighter on the pitching side.
