Fastball Command Unleashing Options For Bubba Chandler

A recent string of starts starting to show what Bubba Chandler is capable of.

It was always going to be a process when it comes to Bubba Chandler. Last year was the first time he’s ever focused on baseball solely, and while you saw the raw talent, you could also tell there was work to be done.

This season, Chandler was going to focus on pitching only for the first time in his life, doing so in High-A Greensboro - a notoriously hitter friendly park - at just 20-years-old.

So, some of it was going to be rough to watch, but the long-term payoff has the potential to be more than worth it.

You can cherrypick some numbers from Chandler this year - his HR/FB% is way above average, and he’s topped 100 strikeouts this season - but most of the traditional stat line doesn’t play too much in his favor.

Over his last five starts, however, we are starting to see flashes of just why the Pirates were so high on Chandler when they gave him a $3 million signing bonus as a third round draft pick.
