Gameday 135: Pirates Open Up Weekend Series Against St. Louis Cardinals
Coming off a sweep of the Kansas City Royals, the Pittsburgh Pirates open up a weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Behind a strong pitching performance by Andre Jackson, the Pittsburgh Pirates were able to secure a series sweep of the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, before having a day off.
They now head to St. Louis to face the Cardinals, hoping to not only take their recent sweep into account, but also their success this season against their divisional foe.
Picking up his first win of the season, Jackson pitched 5.2 innings of one run baseball, striking out seven overall - including the first five batters he faced.
Liover Peguero and Vinny Capra doubled back-to-back and Bryan Reynolds hit his 19th home run of the season. Jack Suwinski also hit his first home run since July 24th.
On the mound for the Pirates on Friday will be All-Star Mitch Keller, who is starting to look like he is putting his rough stretch behind him.
