Mike Burrows was fantastic on Saturday, setting a new career-high with eight strikeouts across 5.1 one-run innings.
It wasn’t enough, as the Pirates dropped the third of four against the Chicago Cubs on the road. A Dansby Swanson home run in the sixth, after Burrows was pulled from the game, was the difference.
The only run the Pirates scored was on a solo home run by Andrew McCutchen in the top of the first inning. McCutchen and Nick Gonzales accounted for 80% of the team’s hits on the day.
They will need a win on Sunday to split the series. Mitch Keller will pitch for the Pirates, who will face Colin Rea.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:20 pm ET.

We’re seeing the limitations of a change in manager. Pitching has been great, but they’re still saddled with the Cherington offense. We can only hope that it gets into Nuttin’s teeny weeny little brain that the team won’t win until he hires a major league GM.
Bradenton wins on a walkoff balk. Learning the Cherington offense.
