Gameday 8: Mitch Keller on the mound for home opener against the Yankees
Mitch Keller vs Max Fried
After a day off on Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates play their 2025 home opener against the New York Yankees. It was a rough road trip to open the season, finishing 2-5 against the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays.
They did finish on a positive note, however, winning the last game behind an Oneil Cruz home run and seven innings of one-run (unearned) baseball from Paul Skenes.
With David Bednar getting optioned to Triple-A, Dennis Santana got the first nod as the new closer, picking up the save.
Now, the attention shifts home, where they begin a three-game series against the Yankees. The Yankees have 19 home runs in five games this season, while the Pirates have four, which Aaron Judge hit in a two-game span.
Mitch Keller will get the nod for the home opener, with first pitch scheduled for 4:12 pm ET.
