The Pittsburgh Pirates look to avoid the sweep against the Seattle Mariners after losing the first two games.
To do so would involve scoring at least a run, something that has alluded them up to this point in the series.
Spencer Horwitz managed the only two hits for the Pirates on Saturday, both singles. They did get five shutout innings from Mike Burrows, whose ERA is now below 4.00.
It will be a fun pitching matchup, even if the numbers don’t look it for one of them at the moment.
Paul Skenes will take the mound for the Pirates and will face George Kirby, who has just eight starts on the season.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 pm ET.

Yesterday’s Feature
Pittsburgh Pirates get fantastic pitching in the minors on 4th of July
The strength of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor league system still resides in the pitching. Even though they graduated Paul Skenes and Jared Jones, and will have two more move on soon (Braxton Ashcraft and Mike Burrows) the organization still has plenty of arms up and down the system.
Today’s Feature
Mike Burrows continues to make strong case to hold rotation spot
It may be easy to forget that Mike Burrows was the best pitching prospect in the Pirates’ system not too long ago.
