Jackson Glenn got the ball off the ground and the success followed
Former fifth round pick rebounded to post strong numbers in 2023
When the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Jackson Glenn in the fifth round of the 2021 draft, they did so in hopes of signing him to an under slot deal to continue to create space for the group of prep players they picked up earlier.
By signing him for $12,500, they were able to save over $400,000 of their draft pool money that helped them sign Anthony Solometo, Lonnie White Jr. and Bubba Chandler.
Glenn didn’t have much leverage being a college senior, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t productive at Dallas Baptist.
In his three years on campus, Glenn hit .317/.400/.569, including an 1.169 OPS his junior season. During that final campaign, he hit 21 home runs (42 extra-base hits) in 272 plate appearances.
He also showed a fantastic approach at the plate, nearly walking (12 BB%) as much as he struck out (13.2 K%) during his time at Dallas Baptist.
Jumping straight into pro ball, Glenn had a good showing in Bradenton during the 2021 season, but stalled out in Greensboro last year, posting a 74 wRC+ in 86 games played.
That led him to repeating Greensboro, where he had a much better showing, batting .299/.380/.474 and a 134 wRC+ in 158 plate appearances before being promoted to Altoona.
One of them biggest differences between 2022 and 2023, Glenn hit the ball in the air more, and in turn, used the hitter friendly confines of First National Bank Field to use.
