Overview
Travieso has good stuff, particularly for a 5’11” righty. So far, he hasn’t had good command. He throws a mid-90s fastball that’s reached triple digits. He adds a slider, sweeper and change. The slider is his big pitch and features good spin. The change could be an average pitch. Travieso’s size raises the possibility that he’ll end up as a reliever. The Pirates acquired Travieso in a five-player trade with Boston.
2024-25
Travieso’s DSL debut in 2024 went mostly well. He made 11 starts, although he threw only 21.1 IP. He had a 3.80 ERA and 11.4 K/9, with a 4.2 BB/9.
In 2025, Travieso split the season between rookie ball and low A. In the FCL, he gave up just 26 hits in 39 innings, although he walked 25. He fanned 52. In low A, Travieso got his BB/9 down to 3.9, but he got hit a lot harder despite a 13.3 K/9. He had a WHIP of 1.64. He went to the Pirates in a December trade in which the main players were Johan Oviedo and Jhostynxon Garcia.
