Luis Peralta Getting Unconventional Results From Sinker
Luis Peralta may have one of the best fastballs in the system, which makes it extra frustrating to watch his control issues
There’s something special about seeing a pitcher challenge a hitter with a good fastball, it adds to the 1-on-1 nature of the matchup.
The Pirates don’t have many players at the major league level capable of getting hitters to miss with the fastball, but have a few scattered throughout the minors. One pitcher who consistently puts up strong swing and miss with his fastball is Luis Peralta.
In his second year with the Bradenton Marauders, Peralta is one of the more intriguing pitchers in the system for two main reasons;
He’s a left-handed starting pitcher.
He can get strikeouts with the fastball, at a rate few can actually match.
The only issue is that the control just doesn’t appear to be taking any step forward. He spent some time on the Development list in each of the last two seasons to work on things, and while he puts together a decent outing here and there, it’s mostly a struggle to find the strike zone.
So, what makes Peralta’s fastball such an intriguing pitch? I take a look at some metrics, and some video to break it down.
