Mitch Jebb Flashing Hit Tool In Early Sample Size
The Pirates 2023 second round draft pick has gotten off to a quick start with the Bradenton Marauders
When the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Mitch Jebb in the second round out of Michigan State, they were taking an advanced college hitter with a very well regarded hit tool.
While he played shortstop in college, most believed that he would make the switch over to second base, with even some thinking he could even play in center field with his speed.
Depending on which draft outlet you were looking up, Jebb’s hit tool was either graded out as ‘above average (55)’, or ‘plus (60)’, either way, the Pirates were adding a strong hitter to the system.
He quickly became the first of the 2023 draft picks to make his professional debut, and hit the ground running - picking up a hustle double in his first at-bat, before scoring from second base on a wild pitch.
That wasn’t all he did, as he combined to pick up seven total hits in his next two games, showing exactly why the hit tool was so highly spoke of.
Breaking out the film, there was plenty to like in his small sample size worth of games, and maybe looks exactly the part of a comparison he got after being drafted.
