Mitch Jebb simple approach finally finding success in Greensboro
Mitch Jebb has made a change to the batting stance for 2024
The Pittsburgh Pirates used their second-round pick in the 2023 draft on infielder Mitch Jebb out of Michigan State. He was a contact-oriented player expected to play second base professionally.
He didn’t hit for much power, but the contact/speed combination was enough for the Pirates to take 42nd overall.
After a solid finish to the 2023 season that saw him put up some elite contact numbers in Bradenton, Jebb started this year in Greensboro, where he struggled out of the gate.
Where he wasn’t making consistent contact, it prevented him from playing the game how he wanted to.
Through May, Jebb hit .200/.264/.300 with a 61 wRC+, and while he did hit four home runs, his successes seemed few and far between.
In June, he slowly started to turn things around, returning to his approach as a more contact-orientated hitter, putting the ball in play and letting his speed do the work.
That led to Jebb's being named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for his efforts against Jersey Shore.
