There are going to be few players that stand out more physically than Kruz Schoolcraft in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Standing at a massive 6’8”, Schoolcraft is one of the best players available in this year’s class after reclassifying from the 2026 Draft, mainly due to his upside both on the mound and in the batter’s box.
Schoolcraft was covered twice in our ‘Introduction to the 2025 MLB Draft’ series, where we looked at some of the best players eligible this year in the best prep hitters and pitchers parts.
In their initial Top 100 rankings for the 2025 MLB Draft, Pipeline and Baseball America had Schoolcraft ranked ninth overall. Prospect’s Live also had him among the best prep players available in their January update.
Hitting
Standing at 6’8” and being a left-handed two-way player, there has been an obvious comparison to Bryce Eldridge, who has emerged as one of the best power-hitting prospects in the minors.
Schoolcraft has the potential to join him in that path should he choose to hit instead of pitch. Pipeline currently gives him a ‘55’ grade for his power, but Baseball America mentions that he can eventually reach a ‘70’ on the raw power scale.
The arm will obviously play due to the hit pitching background, so BA also adds that he perhaps could give the right field a shot.
Around the 1:47 mark Schoolcraft hits a home run, and is followed up with another look at slow-motion. It’s a mostly quiet set-up, slightly croutched stance. His frame looks like it could handle some added weight as he continues to fill out, which should allow for more of that power potential to show up.
Pitching
Right now, as it appears, there is more upside and polish on the mound than there is in the batter’s box. The fastball can get up to 97 but ‘can play a little straight.’ He mixes that with a slider and change-up.
This is the same video I posted the other day when talking about Schoolcraft. I really liked how the secondaries looked and thought they were ahead of the fastball, which based on the Pipeline report, it makes sense.
It’s one, two minute video so not a big sample size but from what I have seen so far, I really like the secondary stuff.
Another thing to note, one concern with taller pitchers is the ability to repeat their delievery and throw strikes, something that he seems to do well.
Schoolcraft recently committed to Tennessee, so it probably won’t be cheap to get him signed come the the 2025 draft. As one of the top prep players, there’s a good chance he’s taken early regardless, especially if the stuff takes another step forward during the high school season.
