Morning Rundown: Bailey Falter leaves with injury, Pirates lose to Mets, Ashcraft activated
Pirates drop game two against the Mets while Bailey Falter leaves game early
The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped the second of their four game series against the New York Mets by the score of 5-2.
Oneil Cruz hit his 13th home run of the season, a mammoth two-run shot, that represented the only scoring for the Pirates.
The big news to come out the day was Bailey Falter leaving the game during the third inning. He walked two of the first three batters he faced in the third, with a Brandon Nimmo single sandwiched in between.
A trainer came out with Derek Shelton after walking JD Martinez, and Falter ended up exiting the game afterwards. The team would later call it ‘left posterior arm discomfort’ as to why he left.
Depending on what happens next, that could make it the second starting pitcher to go down with an injury this week for the Pirates. Jared Jones was placed on the injured list earlier this week with a lat strain.
Luis Ortiz is expected to make another start for the Pirates on Sunday, with an expected start time of 1:35 pm ET.
Braxton Ashcraft was activated off the injured list on Saturday, pitching for the Indianapolis Indians.
In three innings pitched, he allowed three hits while striking out three.
The slider worked well for him, getting six whiffs on 12 swings, while throwing it 18 times. Eight of those 18 were either called strikes or whiffs.

Didn’t get to see the Suwinski bases loaded AB live, but I did watch the replay of the 3-1 pitch, and all I have to say is WOW. That pitch would’ve been low in an 8-year old Little League game. Which is exactly where that Umpire should be calling games if he can’t do any better than that.
OT - just saw that Raul Mondesi is headed for the big house. I’m guessing the statute of limitations has expired for that con he ran on Dave Littlefield so it must be for something else.
