Morning Rundown: Cody Bolton, Osvaldo Bido join team, Pirates can't sweep Reds
Pirates clinch their fifth straight losing season with loss to Reds
It was a nearly impossible mountain to climb, but the Pirates gave it all they got, eventually coming up short and clinching their fifth straight losing season.
Jared Triolo, Henry Davis (twice), and Jack Suwinski (home run) all picked up extra-base hits for the Pirates, with Jason Delay also driving in a run.
The control issues remained for Quinn Priester, who walked five batters in six innings, but held the Reds to just two runs.
Now with just six games left, the Pirates are 74-82. After an off day Monday, they will head to Philadelphia to face the Phillies before wrapping up the season at home against the Marlins.
Bolton, Bido rejoining team
Before the game, the Pirates recalled Osvaldo Bido to the active roster, placing Bailey Falter on the injured list, as well as moving Cody Bolton to the taxi squad.
This is more moving around to try and get as close as fresh arms on the active roster as possible.
Bailey was beaten up his last time out, and his season ends with the injured list placement. Someone else will probably be moved to make room for Bolton before Tuesday’s game.
Bolton has had a weird year for the Pirates, the numbers don’t look good at all, but it’s hard at times to ignore the fact he’s had a couple of big blow up games and a lot of solid ones in between.
Control issues have really held him back, however.
Bido came out of nowhere and made eight starts for the Pirates, posting a 6.36 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched.
He took on more of a full-time reliever role after returning, picking up the first three saves of his professional career during the month of September.
Also this month for Indianapolis, Bido has posted a 1.23 ERA in 7.1 innings, striking out nine batters.
