Morning Rundown: Corbin Burnes signs with Arizona Diamondbacks
Pitcher signs with the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks signed right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes to a six-year $210 million contract early Saturday morning.
Burnes, 30, posted a 15-9 record with the Baltimore Orioles, his only season there. He had spent the previous six years with the Milwaukee Brewers.
In 194.1 innings, Burnes struck out 181 batters while posting a 2.92 ERA. He was traded to the Orioles in exchange for Joey Ortiz, DL Hall, and a competitive balance pick.
He will now join the Diamondbacks, who reached the World Series in 2023 but missed the playoffs this past season. He will join a rotation that features Zac Gallen, Brandon Pfaadt, and Merrill Kelly.
There is an opt-out after the second season, and the deal does include deferred money. Burnes apparently sought out a deal with the Diamondbacks, who lives in Scottsdale.

I don't know why, but I kinda would like the pirates to sign Jose Quintana. I think the 2 year $16 million deal he's predicted to get would be a bargain.
I thought this perspective was an accurate one (via ESPN):
" In a loaded, top-heavy National League, teams that aren't eligible to win the NL Central have to be aggressive. The Dodgers, Braves, Mets and Phillies are overwhelming favorites to land four of the five non-Central playoff slots, leaving the D-backs, Padres and Giants most likely vying for the last slot."
