Morning Rundown: Domingo German opts out of minor league contract, 2024 MLB draft recap
German opts out of minor league deal. One last look at the MLB Draft.
Domingo German opted out of his minor league contract, making him a free agent. The Pirates signed the righty as a minor league free agent, pitching 11 games overall in the system—10 of which came with Triple-A Indianapolis.
He posted a 5.36 ERA in those games with 28 walks and 48 strikeouts across 50.1 innings pitched.
German, 31, had spent his entire career with the New York Yankees before signing with the Pirates this season.
According to Robert Murray, the Pirates are open to bringing him back.
The Pirates made 21 overall picks over three days of the MLB draft. We had plenty of coverage on the picks over those days. As we get ready to shift towards the final stretch of minor league games, one more look back at the draft.
A look at day one, where the Pirates took three prep players.
Then, a look at day two, where they went a clean split of pitchers and hitters.
Finally, day three brought some interesting names that make sense when you sit back and look at what the Pirates have traditionally done.
Listen to the latest podcast episode, where Nola and I talk about our feelings on the draft and some things we are looking at down the stretch in the system.

Not sure if this was posted yesterday, but Kiley did a rundown and analysis of all teams and their draft yesterday. Best value was Duce. Sleeper pick was Hartle. Griffin will end up ranked 4th on the Bucs team list. Said some good things (Griffin’s potential, Sanford can hit, Sterling has traits to take a jump in stuff) about the first three picks.
