Morning Rundown: Jack Brannigan, Jase Bowen hit extra-base hits
Brannigan continues hit streak with first home run of the fall
The Arizona Fall League was pushing a ‘triple header’ Saturday at Goodyear Ballpark, where the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds play their spring training games.
It’s a nice thought to put all of the players in one area, as there is always a great collection of prospects in the AFL.
Well, it was a nice thought, as none of the games were broadcasted, not even on an online stream somewhere.
The scouts and people who traveled to watch the AFL this year had some fun with it, the rest of us who follow this stuff, not so much.
And of course by chance, not only did Jack Brannigan extend his hitting streak, he did so by hitting his first home run of the fall.
For as bad a start as he had, his OPS is now up to .793, the hits he has gotten, most have gone for extra-bases.
Jase Bowen, after getting his first game off on Friday, got right back into things, picking up two hits - including this triple that was recorded and posted on twitter.
With the two hits, that brings his average up to .372 and OPS 1.043.
All teams are off on Sunday with things picking back up on Monday. Salt River will actually have some legitimate road games coming up, which means they may not be as consistent streaming.
Patrick Reilly breakdown
Yesterday’s feature was a premium article taking a look at 2023 5th round draft pick, Patrick Reilly. He has some interesting stuff that will make him someone to watch in 2024, potentially as a starter.
Resource Page
Late Friday we also rolled out the first stages of our Resource page, that features some key information on the Regional Sports Network situation, as well as an option and service time breakdown - both written by Ethan. We will expand to that section as we go along.
Also on the page are links to the page of each respective affiliate for the Pirates on the site. Each page has the roster on them, that will also link you to each individual player page where you can find background and key information on everyone in the system.
Have a look here, it was some incredible work done by WTM.
Thanks for the video of the Jase Bowen triple. Contact and out of the box to third in around 11.5 to 12 seconds is hustling - excellent attitude. He's a ballplayer, and I am glad to see kids like Bowen making their way upwards into AA/AAA and possibly joining other young ballplayers like Cruz, Bae, Triolo, Peguero, EndyRod, and Davis who passed through the minors just a short time ago. Talent, heart, attitude, and commitment will go a long way to building a winning culture again in Pittsburgh.
I think both Bowen and Brannigan have spots on the next really good Pirates team
Brannigan has a chance to be as good or better than Jordy Mercer
And Bowen will have a chance to be a platoon CF and utility guy
