Morning Rundown: Jase Bowen named to Fall Stars roster
Jase Bowen will play in AFL All-Star game on Sunday
It’s been a mostly quiet fall for the Pirates’ prospects participating in the Arizona Fall League. The one standout so far is outfielder Jase Bowen, who jumped ahead from the beginning as one of the better hitters in the league.
So it wasn’t too surprising that Bowen was among the names mentioned when the league announced the rosters for the Fall Stars game that will be played on Sunday.
Heading into the break, Bowen has slashed .304/.366/.533 with 11 extra-base hits (4 home runs), 17 RBI, and thre stolen bases.
He is currently among the league leaders in hits, RBI, at-bats, and total bases.
Salt River dropped their last game before the All-Star ‘break’ on the road against the Surprise Saguaros.
All three of the hitting prospects for the Pirates played, with two of them picking up hits.
Jack Brannigan went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts but also recorded an RBI single in the second inning. Named to the Fall Stars roster on Friday, Bowen responded with a double on his 1-for-4 day.
On the pitching side of things, both Nick Dombkowski and Tyler Samaniego pitched for the Rafters. Dombkowski pitched a shutout fourth inning, allowing just a walk, while Samanigeo allowed a run on a hit and walk in the sixth.
With the season over, the order of most of the draft has been determined, and the only thing left to do is the lottery.
After winning the initial lottery and taking Paul Skenes first overall in 2023, the Pirates will have a 3% shot at doing the same in 2024.
Seven teams will have higher odds of landing the first overall pick, with the Athletics, Royals, and Rockies all having the best at 18.3%.
The White Sox (14.7%), Cardinals (8.3%), Angels (6.10%), and Mets (4.30%) all round out the rest of the group.
I forget, is the lottery only for the first pick or the whole top ten picking order?
