Morning Rundown: Jhonny Severino hits for cycle, Termarr Johnson Double-A debut, strong pitching performances
Severino hits for cycle in Bradenton, Termarr Johnson debuts in Altoona, plenty of strong pitching outings throughout system.
Jhonny Severino had a historic night in Bradenton for the Marauders, collecting the first-ever cycle in the franchise's history.
He went 4-4 with two runs and four RBI.
It’s been a fantastic start to his time in Bradenton, with 11 extra-base hits in 19 games. At 19 years old, he has double digits in home runs (13) and stolen bases (15) while getting playing time at shortstop and third base.
While Severino locked things up offensively, Zander Mueth and Khristian Curtis combined to put together a solid day on the mound.
Mueth picked up his first win with Bradenton after pitching five innings. He allowed just one unearned run, but most importantly, he only walked two hitters.
Curtis came out of the bullpen for just the second time this season, throwing the final four innings and picking up his first professional save.
Termarr Johnson made his Double-A debut on Tuesday, going 0-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he worked a couple of walks, as he drew over 100 last year and is at 80 in 2024.
The stolen bases are a bit of a new wrinkle for Johnson, as he has more than doubled his total from last year to this season (10 in 2023, 21 now in 2024).
He found himself on base with walks his first two times up to the plate, followed by a couple of flyouts.
Mike Burrows had perhaps his best outing in Triple-A since returning, striking out five in four shutout innings. He got up to 75 pitches this time, registering 12 on 40 swings (30%).
His fastball reached as high as 97 mph, averaging 95.1 mph. Again, the slider was his main secondary, followed by the curveball and change-up.
Garrett McMillan finally allowed an earned run in Greensboro but still pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven. His 17 whiffs were tied for the most in High-A.
Pitching for Altoona, Nick Dombkowski struck out a career-high eight batters on his way to five innings of two-hit, one-run baseball. He has a 3.67 ERA in 34.1 innings with Altoona this season.

Severino's cycle was welcome. He'd been in a 1-for-21 tailspin, with nine Ks.
