Morning Rundown: Khristian Curtis throws six shutout, Henry Davis to IL, Pirates lose to Rockies
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there!
Khristian Curtis pitched six shutout innings for the Bradenton Marauders Saturday night. He allowed just three hits and one walk, while tying a career high with nine strikeouts.
Of the 75 pitches he threw on the night, 57 went for strikes.
He’s also in the midst of four consecutive starts with at least five innings pitched. Curtis picked up 20 whiffs on 45 swings (44%), with another 13 called strikes (44 CSW%).
In three starts during the month of June, he’s walked six in 17 innings, while allowing just three earned runs, and struck out 18.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed Henry Davis on the seven-day concussion injured list on Saturday. He left Friday night’s game due to ‘concussion-like symptoms.’
It’s been a rough year for Davis, who hasn’t hit well, spent some time in Triple-A, which didn’t appear to do too much since coming back up.
Jason Delay was recalled to take his spot on the active roster.
Brennan Malone left his FCL start in the first inning in the middle of facing a hitter. After posting about it on Twitter, he replied back, saying that it was from heat exhaustion.
Malone is a new father, so some of the added factors that go with that led to the elements getting the better of him.
He also mentioned he’ll be back next week for his next start.
The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped the second of three against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Jared Jones allowed six runs on six hits and four walks in 4.2 innings pitched.
Nick Gonzales picked up a couple of hits, including his fifth home run of the season. Andrew McCutchen also hit his 10th home run of the season.
They will look to win the rubber match on Father’s Day, a day game, before heading back to Pittsburgh to face the Reds.

Happy Father's Day to all who fit that description. I am in Cary, NC for Father's Day watching my 10 year old Grandson playing in the USA Baseball Futures Tournament (10U) at the National Complex. Through 3 days in the 90+ heat, our team, the Murfreesboro TN Elite are undefeated and playing the team from Fullerton, Cal for the Championship today. Yesterday, Murfreesboro eliminated a team from Texas in the semi-finals and Fullerton beat a team from Scottsdale, AZ in their semi-final. These kids can play all three phases of the game very well beyond their years, and many have dreams of being in MLB some day.
Nick the stick nearing 1 WAR, K rate underwood 23% OPS of 141, quickly becoming our best player. Hope he keeps it up.
