Morning Rundown: MLB Awards week, upcoming offseason milestones
MLB awards handed out this week, while other offseason milestones are ahead
It’s going to be a busy week in baseball as we hit some offseason schedule milestones and have the major awards announced.
Starting Monday and going through Thursday, MLB will announce the major award winners, and a Pirate has the opportunity to take home two of them.
November 18: Rookie of the Year
November 19: Manager of the Year
November 20: Cy Young
November 21: MVP
Paul Skenes is up for Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young. Over the weekend, I wrote why he might be Cy Young's favorite, going over some historical precedents (which aren’t actually in his favor) and sizing up the competition.
First, he will be up for the Rookie of the Year award, which will be given out on Monday.
Looking at some of the offseason stuff to happen, as Tuesday will be the last day to add players to the 40-man to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. They will also have to set their reserve list, which protects players from the minor league phase of the Rule 5.
Friday is the tender deadline, the last chance for teams to drop players from their rosters with no questions asked.
If you want more details on both or look over the offseason calendar, check out Ethan’s fantastic breakdown of everything:

It will also give access to my player feature articles from on-site trips.
We have monthly and yearly plans available, with the latter costing an average of $4.16/month.
Positives -
*Paul Skenes wins the ROY Award tonight,
*38 players currently on the Pirates 40 Man Roster, Sammy Siani would be a no-brainer
Negatives -
*Little if any activity from the front office,
*BC has not fired Derek Shelton,
*BN has not ordered BC to fire Derek Shelton,
*It's pure guess work trying to figure the direction of this team regarding position players
*Does this list of negatives sound familiar
Wouldn’t it be cool if Skenes became the first rookie to win the Cy Young award since Fernando Valenzuela this year?
If Skenes had either pitched the entire season, or been a part of a winning team, it would practically be a slam dunk for him.
