Morning Rundown: Oneil Cruz Suffers Setback In Recovery
Shortstop Oneil Cruz has recently halted running in his getting ready for a return back to gameplay.
It’s been a rough season for the Pittsburgh Pirates trying to fill their starting shortstop position after Oneil Cruz was injured in a collision at home plate.
They’ve rotated through several names, all in hopes bridging the gap in the time it would take for Cruz to return to the lineup, even though it wasn’t believed that it’d be until towards the end of the season.
As we creep closer to September, we’ve seen videos of their towering shortstop throwing a baseball on the field, but still hasn’t been word about when he might start his rehab and get into game-type situations.
Now it seems that he’s had a bit of a set back after experiencing ‘general ankle soreness’ and has stopped running.
With the recent setback, you have to wonder what the odds are that we do see Cruz back on the field this season.
Before he got hurt, Cruz had a line of .250/.375/.375 with a home run, four RBI, three stolen bases and seven walks in nine games played.

David Matoma, the 17-year-old *Ugandan* pitcher in the DSL, has yet to give up a run as a pro in 16.2 innings, and just pitched two more scoreless innings in the first playoff game for Pirates Gold. Now THAT would be a story if he gets to the big leagues.
