Morning Rundown: Opening Day! Jun-Seok Shim moved to 60-day Injured List
Baseball is back! Two prospects moved to the 60-day injured list.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will start their 2024 season today, opening a four-game series against the Miami Marlins.
Mitch Keller will start his second straight Opening Day, coming off of his first-ever All-Star bid.
Martin Perez, Jared Jones, and Bailey Falter are the projected starters for the rest of the Marlins series, with Marco Gonzales slated for the first game of the Washington Nationals series.
The Marlins are expected to send four lefties to the mound this series, with Jesus Luzardo getting the start on Opening Day.
According to the transaction log, Jun-Seok Shim and Jackson Grounds were both recently added to the 60-day injured list.
Shim was one of the Pirates’ high-profile international signings, but he was limited to just eight innings last year in the Florida Complex League. He played well, allowing just three earned runs while striking out 13 in that span.
A few outlets picked him as a potential breakout player, but by the time he returns to the mound, he will be a 20-year-old with eight innings of pro experience.
Grounds is a 19-year-old Australian native who put up strong numbers in the FCL last year outside of a severe walk problem. He struck out 16 while posting a 3.52 ERA in 15.1 innings pitched in 2023 but also walked 12.
Fuck yeah happy opening day everyone! The road to 162-0 starts here!
LFG!
