Morning Rundown: Paul Skenes, Bryan Reynolds named All-Stars
Two Pirates named to All-Star game, weekly minor league recap
The rosters for the 2024 All-Star game were announced on Sunday, and the Pittsburgh Pirates will have two representatives.
Bryan Reynolds will make his second appearance and is having a fantastic season for the Pirates. Among NL outfielders, he’s fourth in wRC+, sixth in fWAR, and second in home runs.
In less than one year, Paul Skenes has gone from the first overall pick in the 2023 draft to All-Star. With just 10 starts under his belt, Skenes has already emerged as one of the league’s best pitchers.
Skenes has gone 5-0 in his 10 starts, striking out 33.6% of the batters he’s faced while walking only 5.2%. He’s also posted a 2.12 ERA in 59.1 innings pitched.
The All-Star game will occur on July 16, 2024, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
After leaving his start in the third inning on Saturday, Bailey Falter was placed on the 15-day injured list.
He left the game due to ‘left posterior arm discomfort.’
The record may not reflect it, but Falter has had a solid season for the Pirates, and it makes two starting pitchers for the Pirates getting placed on the injured list this past week—joining Jared Jones.

Congrats to Reynolds. He has really surprised me with how well he has hit the last 5 weeks. I didn’t think he had this kind of production in him anymore. I had concluded that ‘21 was an outlier for him. If he can hit reasonably well the rest of the way, he could equal or surpass a number of his career highs.
Luis Ortiz should be a permanent fixture in the rotation.
