Morning Rundown: Pirates add eight on day two, Happy Birthday Bucs on Deck
Pirates make eight picks on day two of MLB Draft
The 2024 MLB Draft continued on Monday, with rounds 3-10 being completed. The Pirates made eight picks on the day, dipping into multiple different demographics of prospects available.
With the eight picks, the Pirates evenly split between hitters and pitchers, and went all college players except for one.
3th - Josh Hartle LHP, Wake Forest
4th - Eddie Rynders SS, High School
5th - Will Taylor OF, Clemson
6th - Matt Ager RHP, UC Santa Barbara
7th - Connor Wietgrefe LHP, Minnesota
8th - Gavin Adams RHP, Florida State
9th - Duce Gourson 2B, UCLA
10th - Derek Berg C, Army
Hartle was the highest ranked pitcher on MLB Pipeline and Baseball America going into the season before falling off due to his performance. Ager was an arm that I was interested in, and wrote about multiple times here during the draft process.
We will have a full breakdown of the picks later for the daily feature.
Today marks the one year anniversary for Bucs on Deck. I’ve said it before, and I will say it any chance that I get, you guys have been amazing and I can’t thank you enough for the support.
After leaving Pirates Prospects I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. Part of me took it as a sign that maybe I should just move on from writing.
Ultimately, I felt like I have more to say, and hadn’t done with what I wanted to do—so Bucs on Deck was born.
This past year has been incredible, I’ve made trips to Greensboro and Bradenton to watch games and interview some of the coaches and players. It’s been an incredible experience, and I can’t wait for what the next year will bring here.
Think it’s only fitting that I’m grinding it out with the draft content, doing what I love to do—watch and talk about baseball.
Here’s to many more years of that.

Was just doing a little digging on Taylor Ward- who was apparently “almost” a Pirate last week. Are we sure we want to give up top 10 guy(s) for him???
“Ward is definitely ready for the break. He’s 6-for-49 with one RBI and 20 strikeouts in his last 13 games, dropping his OPS from .773 to .713, and he’s been stuck on 14 homers since June 25.”
Isn’t Connor Joe already Taylor Ward? Salary will be up in the 6-7 million range next year and probably close to 10 after that. I wouldn’t give up much personally
Happy Birthday!
I honestly thought this site was older. You guys are so professional it made me feel like this was a well-established site.
