Morning Rundown: Pirates earn series victory, face Guardians this weekend
Pirates take three of four against Nats, face Guardians this weekend
The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up a big series win against the Washington Nationals, taking three of four this week. Andrew Heaney, Ryan Borucki, and Dennis Santana combined to pitch a five-hit shutout, and Oneil Cruz hit a solo home run, the only run of the game.
Heaney tossed 7.1 innings, striking out four while allowing five hits and two walks. Santana picked up his second save of the season.
Pittsburgh now heads into a weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians, owning an 8-12 record. Luis Ortiz, whom the Pirates traded during the offseason, is slated to start game one of the series on Friday.
He’ll face Carmen Mlodzinski. Paul Skenes is scheduled to pitch on Saturday, which is game two of the series.
Game one has a scheduled start time of 6:40 pm ET.
Konnor Griffin picked up another two hits, while also stealing three bases, giving him nine on the season. He had a groundout that registered an exit velocity of 110 mph.
Keiner Delgado continued his hot start to the week, going 3-4 with a double and three RBI. He’s gone 7-12 with four doubles in the first three games of Greensboro’s series against Jersey Shore.

There’s an interesting article about Strom at DKPS. To some extent it falls into the “best shape of his life” type of stereotype narrative — old school, pitchers all learning a lot, etc. What caught my interest, though, was Solometo saying Strom made two adjustments to his delivery that he thinks are working. Results back him up so far. He’s going today, so that’s worth following.
Wait...Skenes is pitching tomorrow on 4 days rest? HAS SHELTON LOST HIS MIND! SKENES MIGHT DIE!
