Morning Rundown: Pirates get swept by the Dodgers, organization held without win
Pirates get shutout in the win category throughout the organization
Behind a pair of home runs from Andrew McCutchen, the Pirates were able to force extra innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers but ultimately lost, clinching the sweep.
The entire Pirates’ offense was fueled by McCutchen, who hit a pair of two-run home runs.
Bailey Falter allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks across four innings pitched, but the bullpen held the Dodgers without a run until the 10th inning.
David Bednar pitched a clean ninth inning but gave up a pair of runs in the 10th, including a walk-off single by Teoscar Hernandez.
The Pirates' losing streak has reached seven games, and they won just one of eight contests during August.
They will now travel to San Diego for three games against the Padres.
Jhonny Severino hit his first home run with the Bradenton Marauders, but they could not finish the six-game sweep of the St. Lucie Mets.
Carlos Castillo made his first start, pitching two innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out four.
He did string together four strikeouts in a row to end the first and carry into the second.

This collapse, especially right after the deadline, has got to be getting under Nutting's skin right? No warm-blooded owner would not pay attention to this. I mean it goes against fandom, but I wouldn't mind another sweep in SD to get to a nice round 10-game streak. It may be the only way to invoke change in the org.
Seattle Mariners are 10-4 since acquiring Randy Arozarena, who has been torching the ball (172 wRC+) since being traded.
New York Yankees are also 10-4 since acquiring Jazz Chisholm, who has also been torching the ball (190 wRC+) since being traded.
The Pirates are 1-9 since the trade deadline.
Offense obviously hasn't been the issue here, but it was plainly obvious they did nothing to improve the roster in any meaningful way. What does that say about their belief in this club? How does that impact the culture of the team?
Older I get the more credence I give to this kind of shit. Seems far too coincidental far too often.
