Morning Rundown: Pirates head north of the border, Charles McAdoo has big day at plate
Pirates set to open up weekend series against the Blue Jays.
After splitting their two-game series against the Detroit Tigers and having another day off, the Pirates head to Canada to play the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game set this weekend.
This will be the third team from the AL East the Pirates have faced and the first on the road. They won two of three against the Orioles but were swept by the Boston Red Sox.
While no official starter has been named, Mitch Keller and Bailey Falter should play in two of those games. What they do in the final game will be interesting.
They have yet another day off on Monday, so they could opt for a bullpen-style game to give the starters an added day of rest without having to call up a fifth starter.
Before the rainout, they could have thrown Jared Jones up a spot and had him pitch on Sunday. It still would have been on four days' rest, but thanks to his start getting pushed back a day, that seems unlikely now.
Quinn Priester last pitched on Sunday, so he could be an option for one of the weekend games. Having him pitch on Friday would give him four days of rest and allow Keller and Falter to work in an extra day off.
While the Pirates’ system is known for its pitching prospects, a hitter, Charles McAdoo, has continued to play well throughout the season.
A 13th-round pick out of San Jose State picked up five hits Thursday for the Greensboro Grasshoppers. While he’s been fantastic the majority of the season, he’s been especially hot as of late.
In just three games this week against Asheville, McAdoo has eight total hits, including a pair of doubles and two stolen bases. On the season he has six home runs and 10 stolen bases.

We may have caught a break with the Tigers moving Flaherty back a day--he dominated the Red Sox last night. Great bounce-back season he's having (17th in the majors in fWAR); too bad we weren't successful in our pursuit of him (he was high on my wish list).
Well after 2 games at Indy I posted how good Gorski looked. Sorry to say, his bats were not competitive yesterday. 0 for 6 with 4 strike outs. Suwinski and Lamb both look like they are ready for call-ups if needed. I am looking forward to seeing Domingo German pitch tonight. I am thinking if he pitches well tonight, he would be a candidate for a call-up.
