Morning Rundown: Pirates lose again, Chandler five shutout, Griffin lead off home run
Pirates lose second straight to Mets, Chandler tosses five shutout for Indy
The Pittsburgh Pirates let another great start by the rotation go to waste, dropping to 14-29 on the season after losing to the New York Mets, 2-1.
Mitch Keller allowed two runs on five hits and a walk, striking out over eight over seven innings pitched. Despite the brilliant effort, he is now 1-5 on the season. The lone run the offense scored was a bases-loaded walk by Henry Davis.
Ke’Bryan Hayes picked up a pair of hits, giving him six in his last four games played. Alexander Canario also had two hits, giving him five straight games with one. He also has hits in eight of nine games this month.
The offense has now gone 19 straight games scoring four runs or less.
Bailey Falter will start for the Pirates on Wednesday, who need a win to avoid getting swept.
Bubba Chandler was a little wild again (three walks, two hit batters), but he still was able to strike out eight over five shutout innings on Tuesday. The fastball was electric once again, averaging 97.7 mph and getting 10 whiffs on 20 swings.
In eight starts this year with Triple-A Indianapolis, Chandler has posted a 1.91 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 33 innings pitched.
You couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game for Konnor Griffin and the Bradenton Marauders.
Facing another first-round pick from the 2024 draft, Trey Yesavage, Griffin hit a home run on the first pitch of the game, giving the Marauders a quick 1-0 lead.
Things soured up a bit after that, as Griffin struck out the next three times he batted, and Bradenton lost 11-3.
That was Griffin’s seventh home run of the season.
Greensboro Grasshoppers placed SS Duce Gourson on the 7-day injured list

Uh, guys. Ben Cherington’s house was just put on the market.
Allowing BC to attempt to make job-saving trades (assuming he even bothers to) when CLEARLY he has no clue how to evaluate and/or develop upper level hitting talent could result in a bunch of additional AAAA players.
