Morning Rundown: Pirates lose, Termarr Johnson has three hits, Greensboro eliminated
Pirates drop series opener to Kansas City, Termarr has three hits, Greensboro season is over
The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped the opening game of their weekend series against the Kansas City Royals.
Luis Ortiz allowed six run in the second inning, and another in the fourth, putting the Pirates behind 7-0. They were able to score three of the final four runs the rest of the way, but it wasn’t enough.
Bryan Reynolds hit a pair of doubles, and Oneil Cruz hit his 34th (double) of the season. Reynolds, Cruz, and Bryan De La Cruz all had multiple hits for an offense that out-hit the Royals, they just didn’t put enough runs on the board.
The last two games of the series are day games, with Mitch Keller pitching on Saturday against former St. Louis Cardinal, Michael Wacha.
Termarr Johnson recorded his second three hit game with the Altoona Curve, also walking twice and stealing a base. He also drove in two runs.
In total, he reached base all five times he came to the plate.
Altoona scored all 10 of their runs between innings 6-8, coming from behind to defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Anthony Solometo allowed two runs in the first, but held Richmond off the board his final four frames. The start was able to get his ERA under six in what was a down year for him.
Jaden Woods pitched the final two innings, walking one and striking out three.
The season is over for the Greensboro Grasshoppers after losing game three against the Hudson Valley Renegades.
It was the offense that struggled once again, only putting up a single run on the night. Lonnie White Jr. hit a pair of doubles, driving in that only run.
With Greensboro getting eliminated, that leaves two Pirates minor league affiliates left playing, and Altoona only has two games left now.

Per MLBTR, old friend Tyler having some battles getting back on the field, bummer.... --'"While warming up in advance of a simulated game on Friday, Tyler Glasnow felt “discomfort” in his right arm, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told the Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett and other reporters. Glasnow will undergo testing this weekend to see if any structural issues are present, and “I just know we’re going to re-assess and see how he feels over the coming days, see where we can pick up throwing again,” Roberts said."
A close game all the way for GBO, but just not enough hits/runs. Probably hurt that Jack Brannigan missed a lot of games due to injury leading into the playoffs, and Termarr Johnson and Charles McAdoo had been promoted to AA earlier. An excellent season for the players and possibly even better for Manager, Blake Butler, who is not that much older than the kids at GBO.
TJ is setting the schedule for the Pirates. In my estimation, looking at the combination of hitting and fielding, the Pirates have the two best MI's in the system - Liover Peguero, 23, at AAA, and Termarr Johnson, 20, at AA. Peguero needs to start the 2025 season at SS, and depending upon how TJ adapts to AA, he may not need time at AAA before hitting MLB.
That's my view, but BC may start the off-season by trading Peguero and Johnson for some PTBNL's
