Morning Rundown: Pirates lose to Cardinals, Shawn Ross hits three home runs, Antwone Kelly strikes out eight
Pirates lose to the Cardinals and a couple prospects have big nights down in the system.
The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped the second of their three-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2.
Bailey Falter allowed three earned runs on eight hits while striking out five batters across four innings pitched.
Henry Davis hit his first home run of the season in what was his 28th game played.
Right off the back, the Pirates started to apply pressure, with Andrew McCutchen drawing a lead-off walk and Bryan Reynolds hitting a double. Sonny Gray dug deep and struck out the next three batters he faced to get out of the inning without giving up a run.
Gray allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine in seven innings pitched.
The Pirates will go for the series win on Thursday with an afternoon game before heading to Colorado to face the Rockies.
Shawn Ross picked up three hits on Wednesday for Greensboro—all of which were home runs. That gives him 11 on the season, and he becomes just the second player in the system to reach double-digit home runs, behind Matt Gorski, who also went deep on Wednesday.
Greensboro’s offense has gotten off to a hot start this week, scoring 18 runs in two games played. They are back in first place in the South Atlantic League North division.
Antwone Kelly put together one of the best starts of his career, pitching six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out eight batters.
The 20-year-old right-handed Kelly generated 20 whiffs on 48 swings on the night, and due to it being a seven-inning game—which the Marauders lost—he was credited with a complete game.

Do they have a stat for such a thing? If so, my $ is on him leading all qualified minor league hitters.
I'm here for weird stuff like this.
So I was like; Ross hits 3 HR and doesn’t crack the exit velo list……then I remember that there’s no data nor stream for those games…..
