Morning Rundown: Pirates place five minor leaguers on the 60-day injured list
Five pitchers head on the minor league injured list on Thursday.
According to the transaction logs, the Pirates placed five minor leaguers on the 60-day injured list on Thursday.
LHP Jacob Bimbi
RHP Owen Kellington
RHP Andres Silvera
RHP Joshua Loeschorn
LHP Yoldin De La Paz
Bimbi was the team’s 11th round pick in 2024 out of Western Kentucky and got an overslot deal. He appeared in four games for the Marauders, posting a 13.50 ERA with six strikeouts in four innings pitched.
After missing the entire 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery, Kellington will miss the first part of this year as he continues his recovery. He last pitched in 2023 for the Marauders.
Silvera struck out 18 batters in 18.1 innings in the FCL in 2023 before missing the entire 2024 season. Loeschorn pitched well in relief during the 2023 season, playing for Bradenton and Greensboro.
He missed the entire 2024 season, but struck out 89 batters in 68 innings the previous year.
De La Paz was lights out while pitching in the Marauders’ bullpen in 2024, but struggled once he got to Greensboro. He was placed on the seven day injured list on July 24 and never pitched again in 2024.
After a day off, the Pirates get ready to play their final four games this spring, starting off against the Boston Red Sox.
It will be quite the pitching matchup, as Mitch Keller will face Garrett Crochet. The game has an expected start time of 6:05 pm ET.

We have monthly and yearly plans available, with the latter costing an average of $4.16/month.
The Pirates paid $10 mil to sign Aroldis Chapman last year, and he pitched in 68 games/62 IP 3.79 ERA. After 39 Saves and a 2.00 ERA in 2023, Bednar earned about $4.2 mil in his first year of Arbitration. This year Bednar will be paid $5.9 mil after blowing 7 Saves last year. The bad 2024 actually kept him in the "reasonable range" for a Pirate Closer for 2025.
Through 2024, his Career Value in fWAR for the Pirates is 4.7, which in dollars is $36.4 mil, and we have probably paid him less than $7 mil since getting him from SD in the Musgrove Trade. I think the Pirates should be looking at candidates to be our future Closer, and guys like Kyle Nicolas, Eddy Yean, and Jaden Woods are auditioning right now. I do not see Jared Jones as wanting to become the Closer. He has been very successful as a SP, and the future potential earnings as a SP could be much greater for him than as a Closer.
regardless if Bednar bounces back, he is getting up there is arbitration
is it time to start considering Jared Jones as the closer?
