Morning Rundown: Pirates score nine unanswered runs, steal one in the desert
Henry Davis sparks offense in a come-from-behind win.
Down 6-0, the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied back to steal a game on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and now have a chance to win the series with Paul Skenes on the mound Wednesday.
Henry Davis entered the game after Joey Bart was forced to leave with an injury and hit a two-run home run in his first time up to the plate, putting the Pirates on the board.
The Pirates then completed the comeback by scoring seven runs in the eighth inning. Davis also hit a double to lead off the frame.
Bryan Reynolds hit the go-ahead three-run home run to give the Pirates the lead. It was one of four hits on the day for Reynolds, who also walked.
After allowing three inherited runners to score, as well as one of his own, Joey Wentz settled in and tossed 3.2 innings and eventually picked up the win.
David Bednar picked up his sixth save of the season after striking out two in the ninth.
It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for Reinold Navarro, as might be expected for an 18-year-old making the jump stateside.
He dazzled in his debut in the FCL, striking out eight over four one-hit innings. The control issues that plagued him at times in the DSL popped up over his next couple of outings, but he was at his best on Tuesday.
Navarro struck out eight batters over four no-hit innings for the FCL Pirates. He hit a batter in the second that was immediately erased on a double play. He would also walk a batter, too.
He struck out the side in the first and third innings. Through 17 pitches in that third, he generated six whiffs, and then three more in the fourth.
In 13 innings this season, Navarro has now struck out 22 batters, but has also walked nine.
April 20 is the last time Konnor Griffin drew a walk. Until Tuesday night, when he walked twice.
Griffin led off the game with a single, stole second (his 19th of the season), and eventually scored. He’d later pick up a pair of walks.
While he’s walked eight times in 182 plate appearances, he’s done a good job of working counts. It’s been his aggressive approach that has led to him making more contact late in counts rather than drawing a walk.

If Pirates score 7 runs in an inning, but nobody is awake to witness it, did it really happen?
Let this be Hank Davis from now on?
