Morning Rundown: Pirates shut out by Nationals, Konnor Griffin homers again
Pirates fail to score against the Nationals, Konnor Griffin hits second pro home run
The Pittsburgh Pirates failed to build any momentum after scoring a season-high 10 runs on Monday, getting shut out by the Washington Nationals 3-0. They registered four hits on the day, half of which came from Jack Suwinski.
After the end of their game on Tuesday, not a single hitter in the lineup had an OPS over .700 (Oneil Cruz has the highest at .693).
Mitch Keller put together a quality start, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks, striking out three over six innings pitched. The bullpen put together another string of scoreless innings, but it wasn’t enough as the offense was held off the board all game.
Bailey Falter is scheduled to pitch for the Pirates, facing another lefty in Mitchell Parker.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 pm ET.

On the road against Fort Myers, Konnor Griffin registered his second professional home run as a part of his 1-4 day. He scored twice, drew a walk, and stole his sixth base of the season.
After a slow start to the season, Griffin has now lifted his OPS to .886. Axiel Plaz was the only hitter to pick up multiple hits for the Marauders, going 2-4 with a double and two RBI.
Sean Sullivan began a rehab assignment with the Marauders on Tuesday, allowing a run on two hits and a walk, striking out two batters in two-thirds of an inning.
Jared Triolo hit a home run in the first game of his rehab assignment.

I guess Escotto can thank poor contact skills for getting only a two-game suspension for taking a swing at a guy.
Side note away from the albatross in the room ...
Keller is a true professional. After that horrible HBP, Keller was truly human and empathetic in his response and yet able to continue the inning. If not for the broken bat, Keller would have had 6 solid innings with only one run scoring. Impressive two outings in a row. Even his personal defense outshines the rest of the team's defense.
