Morning Rundown: Pirates split games on Wednesday, Gorski hits home run
Matt Gorski hits third home run of spring
The Pittsburgh Pirates split both of their games on Wednesday, winning at home against the Orioles and then losing on the road against the Braves.
vs Orioles
Bailey Falter pitched two shutout innings, striking out three, and the offense put up seven runs at LECOM against the Orioles. Dennis Santana, Tim Mayza, Peter Strzelecki, Ryan Borucki, and Carson Fuller followed Falter to round things out.
Fulmer allowed a run on a hit and walk while striking out two over two innings.
Henry Davis went 2-2 with a double. Matt Gorski hit his third home run of the spring in his only at-bat. Jhonny Severino went 1-1 with a run and double.
Abrahan Gutierrez, Mike Jarvis, and Ke’Bryan Hayes also drove in runs.
vs Braves
A late bullpen implosion cost the Pirates a potential sweep of the day, as they lost to the Braves 9-4.
Mike Burrows started and allowed two runs on a home run to Matt Olson. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out a batter. He consistently sat around 94 mph with his fastball. Hunter Barco pitched an inning, walked a hitter, but also struck out Austin Riley and Marcel Ozuna. He hit 96 mph multiple times with his fastball.
Eddy Yean reached 97 mph on his fastball in his inning, striking out a batter and also walking one.
Jack Suwinski went 2-3 with a home run, his first of the spring. Joshua Palacios and DJ Stewart also picked up two hits. Jack Brannigan hit a triple in his only at-bat.
