Morning Rundown: Pirates take three of four in Chicago, Bubba Chandler lands on injured list
Pirates win three of four against Cubs, Bubba Chandler heads to the injured list
Behind six strong innings from Mitch Keller, the Pittsburgh Pirates won the series finale against the Chicago Cubs, taking three of four against their divisional opponent on the road.
It’s the fifth win on the season for Keller, who now brings his ERA down to 3.84. Andrew McCutchen picked up a pair of hits in the lead-off spot, Jack Suwinski hit his fourth home run of the season, and Nick Gonzales drove in a pair of runs.
The Pirates were also active on the basepaths, stealing four bases on the day.
Colin Holderman, Aroldis Chapman, and David Bednar pitched a shutout inning. It was the 10th save of the season for Bednar.
They have an off day on Monday before playing at home against the San Francisco Giants, who they lost two of three against earlier this season on the road.
Right-handed pitcher Bubba Chandler was placed on the injured list after leaving his start on Saturday early.
Chandler struggled to find the strike zone, walking five batters in the first inning before getting pulled in the middle of an at-bat after the trainer checked on him.
It’s been a rough season for Chandler, who now has a walk rate of over 15%. Assistant General Manager Steve Sanders called it more of a ‘precautionary’ move for Chandler and that they expect him back.

-Termarr! Bizarre box score down in high-A; Branigan, White, Escotto, Head, and Ross all take 0-fers, but Termarr/McAdoo/Cemillo combine to put 7 on the board.
-Probably coincidental but boy have both Chandler and Solometo developmentally piled up in a hurry at AA. Ugly starts to the season for both. Also it now feels like affiliates who don't have statcast are playing off in the wilderness. Do we know if Bubba started dropping velo?
-Ji Hwan Bae still putting up video game numbers. It's almost Memorial Day. I don't know, man...
Big uh-oh re Chandler. There’s a decent possibility that Harrington + Barco > Chandler and Solometo by the end of the season.
