Morning Rundown: Pirates win in extra innings, claim first series victory of 2025
Pirates defeat Cardinals in 13th, take series from divisional opponent
The Pittsburgh Pirates won their first series of the season after surviving the St. Louis Cardinals for 13 innings, winning 2-1.
Mitch Keller was fantastic, pitching a super-efficient 7.1 innings, allowing one walk and four hits while striking out six. From that point, the bullpen took over with Justin Lawrence eventually getting the win after pitching the final 1.2 innings.
Tsung-Che Cheng made his major league debut, going 0-2 with a caught stealing before getting pinch-hit for by Enmanuel Valdez.
Joey Bart went 2-5 with the walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning.
They’ll have a chance to rest the bullpen with an offday on Thursday before heading to Cincinnati for a weekend series on the road against the Reds. Bailey Falter, Andrew Heaney, and Carmen Mlodzinski are the tentative starters for the series.
The Bradenton Marauders found themselves down 5-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
They went to win 12-6 thanks to an offensive explosion that included 14 hits, three by Eddy Rodriguez and two more from Braylon Bishop, Jhonny Severino, Axiel Plaz, and Derek Berg.
Konnor Griffin went 1-2, walking twice and getting hit by a pitch. He stole his fourth base of the season and scored twice.
Altoona Curve placed SS Kervin Pichardo on the 7-day injured list

Javier Rivas with another home run, and his good start continues
Funny, Grandal was the only one of birdbrain’s signings last year who hit anything, but he had to wait until now to get a MiL deal. Tellez and MAT are both in the majors. Well, arguably in MAT’s case.
