Morning Rundown: Pirates win second straight behind Bailey Falter's gem, Lonnie White Jr. hits the injured list
Pirates have two wins in a row after Falter throws 7+ one-run innings.
It’s been a crazy run for Bailey Falter. He gave up five runs in the first inning of his first game this season but has been lights out the rest of the way.
In seven-plus innings on Tuesday, Falter allowed three hits and one run while walking two and striking out eight.
He picked up 13 whiffs on 34 swings (38%) with his four-seam fastball on the night and dropped his season ERA to 3.33. If you take out his first inning against the Miami Marlins, he has a 1.73 ERA the rest of the year.
Behind that and another Andrew McCutchen lead-off home run, the Pirates have won two in a row.
Outfielder Lonnie White Jr. was placed on the 7-day injured list, retroactive to April 20, 2024.
This is another in a growing list of IL stints for White Jr., who has just played in 83 minor league games since being drafted in 2021.
White, 21, has gotten off to a strong start this season, posting a .878 OPS with four home runs, nine RBI, and a stolen base, although all of that has come with some swing and miss.
After his hot start, he had just one hit in his last five games before hitting the IL with seven strikeouts.
