Morning Rundown: PiratesFest Recap, Dodgers sign player from South Sudan
Some articles from PiratesFest, Dodgers make history with signing
Day one of PiratesFest 2025 took place on Saturday, with members of the front office taking questions from the fans among the highlights of the day.
Here’s a few articles posted in the aftermath of day one:
Alex Stumpf of MLB.com discusses how the Pirates are embracing the "executing mentality” and are prepared for the 2025 season.
A pair of articles over on the Post Gazette, the first by Noah Hiles, where he discusses the fans’ frustration over ownership and the lack of winning. The second is by Andrew Destin, which features Andrew McCutchen.
Day two of the event will take place on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t take any time off after signing Roki Sasaki, and it turns out he wouldn’t be the only splash they made on the International market.
They made history by becoming the first team to sign a player out of South Sudan, Joseph Deng.
A 6’7” right-handed pitcher, Deng has a fastball already clocked at 95 mph. The Pirates also signed a player from Africa this signing period, Armstrong Muhoozi.
The Dodgers have a baseball academy they run in Africa, so it’s unsurprising that they end up with a player from there.

We have monthly and yearly plans available, with the latter costing an average of $4.16/month.
I just wish we had an Owner, President, and Management team who is more concerned with the scoreboard at PNC Park, than the scoreboard Nutting’s Banker looks at.
I’m not a doomer about the “inequity” or “lack of parity” in Major League Baseball but at this point I do believe the current era of the Los Angeles Dodgers is the best run and arguably most dominant organization in the modern game and things could start to get really skewed.
Still not sure dynasty’s can exist in today’s game but they’re sure gonna give it a shot.
