Morning Rundown: Rob Zastryzny Returns, Angel Perdomo Done For Season
The Pirates made another roster move on Thursday, placing Angel Perdomo on the 60-day IL, making room for Rob Zastryzny to make his return to Pittsburgh.
As the season winds down, some trips to the injured list is basically a sign we won’t see that player again for the rest of the year.
That’s going to be the case for big left handed pitcher Angel Perdomo, who was placed on the 60-day IL on Thursday, and with the time left in the season, we won’t see him the rest of the season.
Perdomo, 29, was putting together quietly a strong season for the Pirates, striking out 44 batters in 29 innings pitched while posting a 3.72 ERA in 30 games total.
His fastball was averaging 94 mph, and put up a 32.4% whiff rate, which was good for 19th among the 299 pitchers with at least 50 plate appearances determined by the pitch.
Taking his place was Rob Zastryzny, who will be making his second stint on the Pirates this season after his contract was selected in the wake of Perdomo going to the 60-day.
In 18 games with the Pirates this year, Zastryzny has posted a 5.29 ERA, also starting the game on Thursday as an opener for Andre Jackson - who would pitch six innings on his own.
A few other roster moves throughout the system yesterday;
RHP Oliver Garcia was transferred to the Development List by the Altoona Curve.
RHP Yohan Ramirez was optioned to the Indianapolis Indians

Interesting podcast that i listened to with Eno talking about Skenes' stuff+ and fastball shape, apparently his extension is also really poor. Also mentioned harrington and kellington as some of the stuff+ leaders for low A. If anyone is interested: https://theathletic.com/podcast/15-rates-and-barrels/?episode=535
If Altoona could acquire three more Jacksons, we could start a musical group, tee hee.
