Morning Rundown: Sean Manaea to the Mets, Dodgers continue spending spree, site update
Some free agent news along with a site update.
It’s been a slow off-season. Sure, we’ve had some action here and there, but despite being a week into January, quite a few names are available.
Regarding the pitching market, another name was crossed off the list as lefty Sean Manaea signed a two-year contract with the New York Mets, worth $28 million, that also comes with an opt-out.
Manaea, 31, last pitched for the San Francisco Giants but was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2013.
He pitched primarily out of the bullpen in 2023, making 10 starts across 37 appearances. In 117.2 innings, he put up a 4.44 ERA (4.01 xFIP) with 128 strikeouts.
The Mets also signed Luis Severino this offseason to accompany Jose Quintana and Kodai Senga.
It’s been a busy off-season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, opening up their wallets to the tune of over $1 Billion. They added a bit over the weekend, signing Teoscar Hernandez to a one-year, $23 million contract.
Hernandez hit 26 home runs and drove in 96 runs with the Seattle Mariners after spending the previous 5+ years with the Toronto Blue Jays.
A quick site update, the weekly mailbag articles will resume being on Monday after the holidays forced it to Tuesday. Look out for that around noon, the usual time.
The last couple of days, I’ve focused on the things that stuck out regarding the 40-man roster. I may do a few more if anything strikes me, but with the new year kicking in, my focus will shift back to the minor league side of things, with some ‘outlookish’ features as we work our way to Spring Training.
I should have some fun news to share with everyone within the next day or so; being the superstitious guy I am, I'm not trying to jinx anything at this point. Once that happens, I can start working towards some new content ideas that I have wanted to do but haven’t been able to.
Every Monday during the offseason, we will be doing a mailbag article. Please send in your questions to have them answered! Either comment below with ‘mailbag’ entered in the message or email us at bucsondeckqa@gmail.com.
I look forward to answering what you guys have!
Can smell the glove oil of Spring training...
MGMT (Williams I think) said at PF they spent the 5th most in baseball on developmental practices. How the F do you quantify that?
BC talked a big game about moar FA spending coming before ST. Mentioned they're engaged in many fronts.
