Morning Rundown: Tommy Pham officially added, Dauri Moreta to the 60-day IL
The Pirates finally make the Tommy Pham deal official by adding him to 40-man roster
The Pittsburgh Pirates officially added Tommy Pham to the 40-man roster on Sunday. Pham, 37, played for three teams in 2024 and hit .248/.305/.368 with nine home runs and seven stolen bases in 116 games.
He signed a one-year deal with the Pirates earlier in the month worth $4,025,000. Pham needs 30 RBI to reach 500 and another 15 hits for 1,000.
During camp, it was discovered that he would play left field while Bryan Reynolds moved to right field.
To make room for Pham on the 40-man, Dauri Moreta was added to the 60-day injured list. Returning from Tommy John, Moreta was never going to be an option for Opening Day and was always likely heading to the 60-day IL.
Moreta, 28, established himself as a key piece in the Pirates’ bullpen in his lone healthy year with the team. He posted a 3.72 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched.

Braxton Ashcraft is adding a new pitch to his arsenal, according to this article by Noah Hiles. I will discuss this in today’s feature, which will be out later today.
Andrew Destin had a story on Henry Davis on Sunday, as the Pirates remain confident in the former first-overall pick.
On MLB.com, Alex Stumpf wrote an article on David Bednar.
Kevin Gorman goes over some of the options the Pirates have to fill in at first base, and an interesting name is mentioned.

Today (Monday 2/17 spring training practice observations)
1) There were about 300 fans today instead of 100 so it was a little tighter to keep my space and I didn't move around a lot.
2) Tommy Pham shows up today and faces Braxton Ashcraft this morning. First at bat Pham hits one over the 380 foot mark for a homer. The fans cheered as he tried to keep a serious game face on, but actually let a smirk slip out. He was one of the gracious autograph signers today and just said thank you a lot.
3) Termarr who I think looked smooth at short yesterday looked really good at second base at the double play drills. Konnor Griffin at short and Termarr at second.... we can only hope.
4) Henry Davis who is usually stand-offish with the fans heard a kid call his name, so he went over to talk to him. Pretty cool. Maybe Henry has figured out he is not the man anymore. Maybe this will help, assuming he felt pressure before.
5) One of the fans that knows a lot about the Pirates told me he has Phillie fans and asked them about Darick Hall. They both told him they liked Hall that was stuck behind Hoskins, then Harper. Hall hurt his wrist which put him out for some time. That being said, I initially figured he would just take over the Jake Lamb role from last year. However, since he has been practicing with the big dog group that makes me wonder. Last year Lamb practiced with the prospects.
6) Nick Solak looks fine, but doesn't stand out. He has been practicing with the prospects.
7) In a very small sample, Alika Williams and Peguero looked good against live pitching and pretty rusty in the field with their throws.
Yorke's brother is sending him a firstbasemens glove.
