Morning Rundown: Twins sign Harrison Bader, Ryan Brasier traded to Cubs
Twins sign an outfielder, Cubs make a trade
Another free-agent outfielder was picked up by a team yesterday, with Harrison Bader signing a one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
The contract comes with a mutual option for 2026.
Bader, 30, played for the New York Mets in 2024 and hit .236/.284/.373 with 12 home runs and 51 RBI. He has played for the Cardinals, Reds, and Yankees as well in over 700 career games in the majors.
The Chicago Cubs have acquired Ryan Brasier from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Brasier was designated for the assignment by the Dodgers last week to make room for Kirby Yates. He went 1-0 (29 games) with a 3.54 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched for the Dodgers last year.
Pete Alonso has reportedly signed a two-year contract to return to the New York Mets. The deal has an opt-out after this season, and he will get paid $30 million in 2024.
One of the game’s premier power-hitters, the shortened season of 2020 was the only year that Alonso hasn’t hit at least 30 home runs. He went deep 34 times in 2024, the lowest amount he had hit since 2021.
Alonso, 30, hit 53 home runs in his rookie season back in 2019.

Rob Manfred says the Dodgers aren’t ruining baseball. True. Rob Manfred is.
