Morning Rundown: Tyler Samaniego allows walk-off hit, Rangers take 2-1 lead
Despite losing Scherzer, Garcia, the Texas Rangers take a 2-1 series lead
The Salt River Rafters blew a late lead, losing to the Glendale Desert Dogs and falling back to .500 with a 12-12 record.
Jase Bowen picked up another hit, going 1-for-4 with a single. He would later score on a Keshawn Ogans RBI single in the fourth inning. Jack Brannigan batted ninth, played shortstop, and went 0-for-3 with a walk and strike out.
Nick Dombkowski entered the game in the eighth inning and only recorded two outs while allowing a walk and hit before being pulled and replaced by Christian Montes De Oca.
After three of the first four hitters reached base in the ninth, Tyler Samaniego replaced De Oca, walking in a run to tie the game before allowing a walk-off single from Colson Montgomery.
There’s some added drama in the World Series, as Max Scherzer and Adolis Garcia left game three with injuries.
Scherzer is a future Hall of Famer but hasn’t been particularly effective in the playoffs, but he was in line to start game seven if they got that far.
On the other hand, losing Garcia is potentially a massive blow for the Rangers. He’s easily been their best player and hasn’t shied away from the big stage.
He hasn’t had the best postseason, but Marcus Semien came up with an RBI single to open the scoring in the third inning, right before Corey Seager hit a two-run home run to give Texas a 3-0 lead.
Yesterday, we had an Arizona Fall League update, taking a lot at how the seven Pirates’ prospects participating are doing with two weeks left in the season.
He’s slowed down a bit, but Jase Bowen remains one of the better hitters in the league, and an extremely random stat going into Monday night’s game - all four of the remaining pitchers had exactly eight walks each.
