Morning Rundown: What's next in the offseason? Early 2025 RoY candidates
A brief quiet period before the Winter Meetings, MLB.com gives some 2025 Rookie of the Year candidates
Last week was fairly busy with deadlines to tender contracts to players (or not) and adding Rule 5 eligible players to the 40-man. They also handed out some awards across the league.
With the holidays coming up, there aren’t any big offseason milestones approaching, although players can still sign with teams.
The next big event will be the Winter Meetings in December, where the Rule 5 and draft lottery will take place. We could see some moves then as well, as last year, the Pirates traded for Marco Gonzales.
Of course, if you wanted a complete breakdown of important dates this offseason, check out Ethan’s article from late October.
MLB.com had an article on their site the other day reviewing some early candidates for the 2025 Rookie of the Year.
Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo selected Dylan Crews as their early favorite. He still has rookie status and got a taste of the majors late last season. Crews, of course, was the second overall pick to Paul Skenes a year ago.
Mayo then had Bubba Chandler finishing second, although he doesn’t think he’ll break camp with the team. Regardless, Mayo says he will be up early enough to finish high. Another pitching prospect, Andrew Painter, was picked to finish second by Callis.
Over on the American League side, they both have Coby Mayo of the Baltimore Orioles as the favorite. Jacob Wilson, Jasson Dominguez, and Jackson Jobe all were mentioned.

It will also give access to my player feature articles from on-site trips.
We have monthly and yearly plans available, with the latter costing an average of $4.16/month.
First decent signing: Kikuchi to the Angels, 3 years, 63 mil.
The Pirates have a full Rotation set to go in 2025 which is primarily the same as 2024. Skenes, Keller, and Jones are 1, 2, 3 and then which 2 of the next 4 very qualified SP's get the 4 and 5 slots - Falter, Ortiz, Chandler, or Harrington. Either way, the Pirates will have 6 SP's available for trade - picking Chandler and Harrington to fill out the Rotation gives us Johan Oviedo, Luis Ortiz, Braxton Ashcraft, Kyle Nicolas, Mike Burrows, and Bailey Falter available for trade.
Baltimore is as loaded with hitters as the Pirates are loaded with Pitchers. With Burnes leaving, it puts great pressure on B'more to secure at least a possible #3 SP in trade. Who would be adequate remuneration to get us LH hitting 1B/OF Heston Kjerstad? I'd rather have Tyler Soderstrom, but Kjerstad can hit with probably slightly less power. Six years of control at 1B, as opposed to 5 with Soderstrom.
