Morning Rundown: Wil Crowe DFA, Tres Gonzalez Sparking Greensboro, Enmanuel Terrero
Wil Crowe was DFA by the Pirates, Greensboro's offense receiving a spark from Tres Gonzalez and Enmanuel Terrero returns to the Bradenton lineup.
No general manager is going to perfect when it comes to the trades they make, as sometimes despite all the research that goes into it, things don’t quite work out.
Ben Cherington has made several big moves as the GM of the Pirates, but the Josh Bell stands out as maybe the oddest of them all. Bell was a former All-Star coming off a down season, and the Pirates paid for his value being hit in the return.
From the Washington Nationals, the Pirates received Wil Crowe and Eddy Yean. With Crowe being DFA on Wednesday, and Yean struggling in the bullpen at Greensboro, it’s safe to say the trade didn’t exactly pan out as they hoped for.
Crowe was useful, to an extent, pitching nearly 200 innings in a two year span, mostly out of the bullpen, but that wear had it’s effects. He spent most of the season on the IL, and after rehabbing recently, was DFA.
You aren’t going to hit on every trade, but this one always seemed to be a long-shot due to the timing of when they made it.
Greensboro Offense Stays Hot
After promotions of Abrahan Gutierrez and Tsung-Che Cheng, the Grasshoppers were going to need someone to step up in their place offensively. It’s been a work in progress, as they are just 6-13 in the ‘second half’ of the season - with three of those coming on their recent winning streak.
They’ve put up 24 runs over their last two games, in a large part to leadoff hitter Tres Gonzalez. During their three game winning streak he’s gone 8-for-15, with five runs scored, six RBI, three doubles and three walks.
Enmanuel Terrero Returns To Lineup
One of the impressive first half performers in the system, Terrero had not played since the since the 14th after leaving the game with an apparent (but unconfirmed) leg injury.
He made his way back into the lineup and struck out three times, but also walked, and hit his seventh home run of the season, a massive shot that registered at 419 feet to center field.
Terrero has hit well in Bradenton, and despite a below average exit velocity, has put up a strong 90th percentile mark.

Shelton didn't do Crowe any favors with the way that he was used. Pretty sure Shelton owes me $$$ for a duckpin bowling bet back in '98. 3 strikes in the 10th to score a 120. Tough game.
With our highest/best prospects in Pgh, the pickings are slim.
What is wrong with Tsung Che Chang?
