Morning Rundown: Yordany Stays Hot, Bubba Chandler Strong Week, Mitch Struggles Again

At just 18-years-old, Yordany De Los Santos became one of the more interesting prospects in the system once he was promoted from the FCL, to the Bradenton Marauders.

It took a little bit of adjust, not surprising for someone his age, but is on a recent five game hitting tear, going 7-for-15 in that span, with five of those hits going for extra-bases.

He also picked up his first Single-A home run, and also made some great plays on the defensive end of things.

Speaking of strong weeks, Bubba Chandler has shown flashes of what he’s capable of, he just hasn’t been able to put it all together.

Making two starts this week against Wilmington, Chandler combined for 10.2 shutout innings, allowing just four hits and walks, while striking out 14 batters.

Not a bad week for the 20-year-old focusing solely on pitching for the first time in his life, while doing it at the High-A level.

Even with making his first career All-Star game, and pitching seven shutout innings on the 8th, it hasn’t exactly been the best July for Mitch Keller.

In four starts this month, even including the one against Arizona, Keller has collectively allowed 18 earned runs across 23 innings pitched, posting a 0-3 record along with a 7.03 ERA.

The last two starts have been particular rough, allowing 14 earned runs (11.45 ERA) in 11 innings, including 19 hits and five home runs.

Keller was able to build off of last year’s success and earn an All-Star bid, and will be looking to rebound to cap off the season.

Later today there will be a new feature, an observation article where I kind of collect all of my thoughts throughout the previous week of watching the system. Tuesday will see a couple of premium articles get released, with a third on Friday.

I’m still trying to find the best way to spread out the premium articles, but will keep everyone up to date if something gets moved around.

Due to a few mentioning it, I will start doing a Gameday Preview/Thread article, to give a centralized place to talk about the game, starting when the Pirates come back to the east coast.

It will be released at noon, unless it’s a day game. I will start out with pushing them through to give email notifications, with the eventual plan to stop and still have them up, just so the site isn’t spamming too many things throughout the day.
